Quit Smoking Easy
While it’s every smoker’s dream to find some easy way to quit smoking, the fact is that
quit smoking easy is just that – a dream.

However, I certainly don’t want to discourage you from quitting. Although there isn’t a way to
make quitting completely easy, there definitely are a lot of ways to make it much, much easier.
Ways to Make Quitting Smoking Easier
One way is to spend some time before your quit date getting very clear about what smoking is
costing you (health, money, self respect, social acceptance, etc.) and what you’ll gain when you quit. Doing this
will help clarify you vision and strengthen your resolve.

It also helps to examine your smoking habit to identify the situations in which you’re most
likely to smoke. Once you’ve done that, plan on avoiding those situations as much as you can in the early days of
quitting.
Make a Plan
For the ones you can’t avoid, come up with a plan on how to avoid smoking when that situation
comes up. For example, a lot of people smoke while they talk on the phone. Since it’s not likely that someone who
does that will give up talking on the phone so they need to have a plan to cope.
Some people keep a pencil and paper by the phone so they can doodle while they talk to keep
their hands busy. Some chew gum. A friend of mine taught herself to knit and made scarves for her whole family
while she chatted.
Make Your Entire Home Smoke-Free
It’s a lot easier if to quit smoking if no one you live with smokes. If you’re the only smoker
in your household, you’re in good shape. Your family members will probably be thrilled that you’re quitting and
will undoubtedly do every thing they can to support you and make quitting easier.

On the other hand, if your spouse or another family member smokes, it’s going to be tougher. The
best solution would be if they’re also interested in quitting and you do it together. That way you can clear all
cigarettes and smoking paraphernalia out of the house and reinforce each other’s decision to quit. Obviously, you
can’t force someone to quit so this can be tricky.
Change Your Mindset
Here’s a simple little trick that can make it easier to quit smoking and stay quit. Practice
saying; “No thank you. I don’t smoke.” Practice saying it mentally throughout the day. When your by yourself,
practice saying it out loud. Say it calmly and with self-assurance. Please avoid the holier-than-thou tone of some
non-smokers. We want you to quit smoking, not become a jerk.
Repeating that phrase is a good rehearsal for situations where you might be offered a cigarette.
It also starts to shift your self-image. It gets you thinking about yourself as a non-smoker, which is
pretty cool.
