Quitting Smoking Hypnosis

Using quitting smoking hypnosis is a perfectly reasonable thing to do as part
of any quit smoking plan. In my opinion, there’s no downside, it usually helps and for some people it’s
dramatically effective. I have to say that it is not usually the answer to stopping smoking by itself, but it can
be a wonderful supporting measure to any other stop smoking technique.

However, some smokers who want to stop hesitate to use hypnosis, often because of
misunderstandings or uncertainty about what is involved. I’d like to clear up some of these quitting smoking
hypnosis uncertainties now.
Ways to Use Quit Smoking Hypnosis
Hypnosis can be done either by the person themselves (self hypnosis) or with the help and
guidance of a hypnotherapist. If the hypnosis is undertaken with a therapist, it can be one-on-one or in
group sessions. Some therapists travel and hold sessions in rather large meeting halls. These sessions are usually
very affordable and worth trying if one is available in your town.
If you try that, have reasonable expectations. I have known a couple of people who went to such
a session and never smoked after. That’s a rarity. I’ve known many more people who stopped or reduced their smoking
for a while, but soon were back at their old levels.
I think the people who stopped were highly motivated to begin with (a variation of an old joke;
“How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb?” answer: “Only one, but the light bulb has to want to
change.”). The people who went back to smoking didn’t have an ongoing plan to maintain their smoke free
status.
Individual Hypnosis Sessions Help
If you can work with a therapist individually, the success rate goes up for a few reasons. For
one, the session can be adjusted according to your individual response to suggestions.
Also, the therapist can address your individual issues around smoking and make hypnotic
suggestions specifically suitable to your situation.
The downside of individual sessions is that not everybody has access to a trained
hypnotherapist. And if you do, they can be expensive. Of course, if you succeed at quitting smoking, you’ll quickly
recoup your investment.
Self Hypnosis Is a Convenient Method
The other approach is self hypnosis. There are several written guides available, but I think the
easiest and most effective way to use self hypnosis for quitting smoking is with a recording.
With this method, a therapist has recorded an hypnotic session imbedded with suggestions to help
you stop smoking and become smoke free. You can listen to the recording any time at your convenience.
Naturally, the session isn’t customized for you, but such recordings are still effective. And
they are very affordable.
It should go without saying that you should never use these recording while driving or doing
anything that requires your attention for safety.
A Combination Works Best
I am a big fan of using hypnosis as part of a quitting smoking plan, but I don’t think hypnosis
alone is going to be successful for most people. In other words, I don’t think it is reasonable to expect that
going to a stop smoking hypnosis seminar or buying a hypnosis CD will be enough to free you from the smoking habit
if that’s all you do.
However as part of a comprehensive plan, hypnosis can be very effective. That’s one
reason why I like the stop smoking system Quit Smoking Right Now.
The developer of this system, Rick Saruna, is a master of NLP hypnosis as well as several other
therapeutic techniques. Over several years of working with people in his clinic, he experimented with combining
several methods and eventually developed a comprehensive quit smoking system that achieves over a 90%
success rate!
As word of this system got out, he was besieged by requests for help from more people than he
could ever see in his office. Finally, one of the patients that he helped quit smoking convinced him to create a
digital product that would give people the same results without having to travel to his clinic in Canada (BTW – the
fellow that convinced Rick to create the program had been a smoker for 39 years, had failed several previous
attempts to quit, yet was able to stop completely after only one 4 hour session with Rick).
You can read a review of this system here:
Although it’s not solely a hypnosis system, it does use some hypnotic principles to achieve its
success rate. I encourage you to check it out. You can read the reviews above or follow the links below to find out
